NW MN | I did new lights in my shop two years ago when I insulated the building. If I remember correctly, my LED lights are 22,800 lumens each. One light per 233 square feet of floor space with fresh gloss white ceiling and walls.
I also instantly noticed the shadows when I started hanging the lights and was concerned at the time. What I’ve deduced is the light is so strong that the shadows are more defined than when I had less light. Previous setup was two 1000W metal halides (at their age probably down to 70k lumens each) with a galvanized steel background.
I get lots of comments about how bright the shop is. Shadows are very defined, but I’ve come to figure it’s like shadows on a sunny day vs cloudy day. Sunny day, shadows are clear and defined because of the level of contrast. Poor light cloudy day, there is not a shadow to be found.
