Northwest Iowa
This isn’t an answer to how to help him raise cattle but just something that I feel is valuable on so many levels of life. Start a Roth IRA. I know some will say my land, cows, etc are my retirement but that can be taken from you in retirement on certain occasions. I’m only 34 and my oldest is 7 and talks big on wanting to raise sheep so I’m going down the same path as you and your son. Lot of things to decifer through as we keep going.

I have had a Roth since I got out of college. It’s done very well and will all be tax free money when i decide to take it out. It’s a retirement account, a nursing home plan, or an estate planning option. Email in profile if you want to discuss more but having passive income that grows by me doing nothing is valuable.
