It would take many foliar apps to get much into the plant without burning the crop.
Either broadcast it or band it outside of the furrow. Plenty of other products are even more harmful to biology that are applied to most fields every year.
I agree there are more harmful products applied as well. Copper sulfate is used to keep algae from growing in tanks. It will kill soil biology as well. Nature of the beast. Thing to look at though is just because they are applying copper to the soil, doesn't mean the plant is taking it in either. The small amounts applied foliar, especially when using a fulvic acid, will get into the plant easier and require less energy from the plant to use
