| Through a partnership with a local Michigan farmer I have access to ~1,000 acres of cover crop that is planted after wheat and canola each year.
It’s a diverse mix that gets extremely good growth and the cows do really well on it. The farmer is open to grazing and the cover crop is planted regardless of cows being on it or not.
Have grazed cows there for a few winters now and did until the first of February this year, through deep snow and cold temperatures.
Usually ready to start grazing sometime in October. The fence is temporary and water has to be hauled, but it seems like there is opportunity here.
I’m looking for scalable ideas to utilize a chunk of these acres and make some money. Custom grazing, backgrounding calves, breeding heifers etc. Open to anything | |
