My only input is that a 10K semi is going to likely cost you more in maintenance and repairs than you'd have in the 15K dually all together. Yes there's maintenance on a 15K dually, but not much at that point. Change the fluids, grease it and run it. Replace when worn out. The semi could easily cost you 5 grand before you even get it home. Also, if you're in a pinch, you can take that dually off the trailer and use it for anything. The semi, not so much.
There’s really no way to say which is going to cost more to maintain. An older semi in good shape can go a lot of miles with very little attention. There’s always the possibility of a big repair, but that holds true for the dually too, since neither rig would be new.
I should have clarified that my comments were based on a lot of sitting parked. Not apples to apples trucks, but seemed like my truck that pulled my spray tender and lowboy year-round was always less troublesome than harvest-only trucks. He said he would run a pot half full, and I have to wonder how often at half full? Once every couple of months? If infrequent, that's what would make me lean towards the pickup. At least you could run it around a little every week.
