King City, Mo | My middle son loves the chickens and selling eggs doesnt really cash flow things.
Last year he talked me into picking up 100+ pullets when they were $1/head at tsc late spring.
This fall/winter he sold off 70-75 at $25 per head.
He is also sold 34 baby chicks strait run for $2/head this spring as he got a nicer incubator for Christmas. He liked the new incubator so much he said he was gonna ask for another for his bday….well i ordered him one then as we could use it now and his second batch just hatched.
He got around 60 chicks this time outta 96-97 eggs.
Do eggs laid in cold weather affect hatch-ability? He had lower hatch rates on the 1st incubator from eggs gathered on colder days than the 2nd one running on warmer days.
This evening he should have turn #3 fully loaded in the incubators.
I dont think he is gonna get rich with the chicken operation but he is having fun and enjoying it. His younger brother and mom also enjoy the baby chicks. The oldest isnt interested in chicken unless its on his plate at the table….
