Southern PA | Axle extensions don't stress rims anymore than not having axle extensions. Wheel spacers do change the stress level on rims. Example....... We ran 900 singles on a 9660 with 4 inch wheel spacers which actually isn't recommended. Instead (if we wanted 4 more inches on each side) we should have ran 4 inch axle extensions which was recommended if you wanted more width or working room. As I mentioned, axle extensions don't change the stress level on rims, because the relationship of the final drive to the rim doesn't change like it does when you add wheel spacers.
ETA.
The axle extensions do add stress to the axle, but that's why they use a "tierod" under the combine between the extensions. Ties the two together to reduce the stress that is added from the extensions.
