| The vice president of Gehl Engineering (Don Burroughs) told me that the merger was deveoped for the Steiger Tractor and the 1200 chopper. When he went before the Gehl Board of Directors for approval he asked them if "they realized pulling the chopper and wagon at 8 miles per hour required as much power as the chopper itself?" Somewhere after approval marketing evidently pushed them for smaller tractors. It worked good but it was obviously heavy for a 2WD tractor. The Gehl 1200 was the largest pull type chopper made at the time and was rated at nearly 300hp and later models were 300hp plus. | |
