If we are so powerful, why isn't the navy in the Strait protecting oil shipments?

I saw an article that said China has a ship in the strait gathering intel and feeding it to Iran, but the US cant touch a Chinese vessel. So why do we allow Iran to control the Strait

Google "Operation Earnest Will"
In 1987 the U.S.Navy escorted oil tankers through the strait.

Despite Beijing’s calls to keep the strait open to international trade, ship-tracking data shows that Chinese tanker and container ships have all but ceased transits since the conflict began, leaving dozens of Chinese ships trapped in the Persian Gulf. (CSIS - 6 MAR 26)
