Calf 150P was born on cold, rainy, muddy Friday 3/6 as discussed below. A friend and I tried to check on her on Saturday 3/7. We scoured the pasture and fenced in woods. No luck. We tried to get the cow to show us where she'd hid the calf with no luck and feared the worst. Well, today Sunday 3/8 I went up the hill into that pasture again and was pleased to see the wet cold calf of Friday now a cleaned up 3 day old bouncing around the pasture! She's a beautiful dark red color from her sire's EFBeef Tested genetics, and evidently well fed and cared for by her dam. Here are some before and after, 3 hours old vs 3 days old, pictures. Nothing like seeing new life in the spring! It's amazing how hardy creatures these Herefords are. Especially how a good experienced cow can give birth and raise a calf on her own in a less-than-ideal environment.
