Wdnt a cat or Cummins outlast a Detroit?

Yeah I'm sure they would but with that frame of mind why would any other engine be used in anything? I'm sure there's a back story as why the Detroit was used. Maybe already had the engine, less $'s??There used to be a ton screaming Detroit's in this area in the oil field. Wasn't because they better or lasted longer, because they were quick revving up. Didn't need a lot of torque. It was amazing how much faster the Detroit was out of the hole compared to Cummins or Cat. Simply because they revved up quick. We replaced 1 6v71 with a 50 Series Detroit. Made that unit a complete turd. Today's electronic engines killed the efficiency of a pulling unit.
