Subject: RE: Buying A New Chainsaw Question

Homeowner grade saws Echo are top performers but don’t expect to be impressed regardless. The Husky and Stihl homeowner saws are absolute junk. Sadly, Makita (Dolmar) was actually building top quality small saws but Makita pulled the plug on the line.

Stihl farm and ranch grade saws are decent and much better than Husky but you can buy a CS590 Echo that outperforms most farm grade saws at a much cheaper price.

Pro saws Echo only has a couple decent models and they are modest performance but solid build quality. Stihl has really stepped up their game in the pro saws since the early emission days when they had both anchors like the 362 and 441 but their pricing is getting a little ridiculous. Husky pro saws have finally gotten over their Autotune troubles and annoying quality control (for the most part) and are also very good saws overall.

Battery saws are hit or miss but with the cost of batteries and the level of performance you get, coupled with the failure rate of these high discharge batteries you are money ahead with a quality gas powered saw yet…with one exception, a cheap battery powered pole saw is slick for clearing the oddball branch along a fenceline, especially if it collapses enough to get it in a cab.
