I've got couple of guys that used either 48" or 60" for the exact reason that you do. But most of my customers buy 51" or 64" net wrap. I think the narrower stuff is more popular for those doing bedding, not hay.

Offsetting should work I'd think, why not try it? Wouldn't be hard on NH BR series balers, IDK about other colors.
