Subject: RE: Spring vs fall calving

Southeast Colorado
We fall calve here. I went to that several years ago because we don't have much grass. We can run the cows dry over the summer with less pasture/hay...........and then move to irrigated wheat and corn stalk pasture over the winter. Not many do that here.............but winter is when I have the most good quality grazing available. If we covered up with snow more often it wouldn't work. But typically we don't do that. Most snows will melt off in a week or so.

I love the fall calving from a labor standpoint. We basically do nothing different than we do any other day of the week. Just once a day drive by and see what's new.
