I lived it during the 80's. Almost every decision was aimed at maximizing that slop.
Buy and selling certs, CRP payments, Watching the market for LDP opportunities. Planting more corn to up your corn base to increase payments.
Farms bought and sold to maximize the return from set aside. ( Farm the good ground and buy crap ground to set aside.)
