That's what a SxS and a dakota fluid probe are for. No one in their right mind would hand sample zones or grids 0-24". Guarantee 75% of the fields in the midwest you would struggle to get a hand probe deeper than 12" because of the compaction. I've had hard pans stop a hydraulic probe dead in its tracks and lift my SxS off the ground.
