Your comment about different results with different ranches and cows is accurate. And your study emphasizes the importance of trying a couple things to see what works for you because it may be different than what the university research or your neighbor would suggest. I have long been a fan of F1s, both Angus x Hereford and Angus x Charolais. In our cow herd, it’s hard to beat the black baldy, and in our grow yard the data would suggest that the more baldies we get in the pen, the lower the COG. I presume that is the heterosis effect on feed conversion and so presume Charolais sired F1 cattle to do the same but I don’t get many of those. I used to buy a few of them though. We are in a targeted, restricted gain situation instead of a maximum calorie, maximum gain situation like a finish yard would be. Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed reading about your trial.
