Saronville NE | Think thats what most dont realize. How much less time you have to babysit cows. We literally only check once a day. We mive pairs out of the drylot on day 2 or 3 to intensive graze feed to get off dirt and roll. Dont need bsrn or shed, no hot boxs etc. Just drop and go.
Wwve had even better luck just letting them do there thing on pasture and just driving thru on 4wheeler every few days.
The argument of more feed in winter doesn't really make sense to me. We lock pairs up mid jan off stslks because calves are getting big nuff cows getting pulled down a little. But we used to lock breds up about sane time due to calving and watching. Maybe use tick more feed but not lots because we go to grass almost a month earlier now then than. So in my eyes its about a wash. Wean calves in march, so really only feed hard for 45 to 60 days then bsck iff again once calves are pulled. Calves wean easy because already eating out of bunk w mom.
Just so much less headaches, time spent and nicer weather. | |
