Kingston, Iowa
I don't have any experience with the y drop part of your question. I sidedress with a coulter injection rig. 3 years ago I added an extra coulter and injector to the bar and slid the units so every row has it's own coulter/injector 8 to 10 inches from the row. I was worried a little about root pruning before I did this, but it hasn't been an issue. I attended a session at Becknology days that prompted me to do this. They discussed root growth and the fact that it takes awhile for N applied to the middle of the row to get to where it's needed. I put a 3rd of my N down as sidedress. I want to have it in the ground.
