I feel you on the costs. Some of these shows are just huge money pits if they aren't organized right. 

I’ve been checking out the setups from Event Display here in Australia, and the way their shop handles layout and flow is a great way for making these trips productive instead of just a long walk. If the physical setup is smart, the learning sessions follow suit.
