I’m not sure rates weren’t high enough, but rather weren’t kept there long enough. Everyone kept buying with the idea of refinancing lower in a couple years, which is what happened. Also, so much debt is fixed for longer terms compared to the 80s when everything was on variable so the pain came fast. Unfortunately this doesn’t end without some pain in the general economy, knocking 50% of the stock market would be a good start for fixing inflation.
