Chebanse, IL.....

Moose, thanks for reply

I don't mean to pick on you, but it seems some farmers toss in "regulations" as reasons to make their choices. It doesn't matter to me whether you use UAN, or even no N at all.

You stated....X2 regulations forced it out here

But your reasons of proximity, size, and availability make more sense as to why to not use NH3. I'm just asking which regulation(s) might have "forced it out..."?

Re. "trying to get insurance" isn't a problem here. On-farm NH3 storage isn't unusual in IL either. Insurance isn't prohibitive. I know that for a fact. We do have NH3 regulations, but they're not unsurmountable. They all seem to make sense as far as safety. I will also say the IL Dept of Ag folks will do just about everything they can to help anyone meet or understand NH3 regs. Same with the Illinois Fertilizer & Chemical Association (IFCA). They do a lot to help promote safety & proper use of NH3, and all fertilizers.

I'd say that DOT regs do more to make life miserable for farm trucks vs using NH3.
