I would consider shallow rooting mixes of crp. Some crp doesn’t have to be native so brome, etc might be an option. But NRCS may have info on some smaller statured stuff. Little bluestem, sideoats grama might be options. Big bluestem and Indiangrass I would expect would be more problematic.
