S Illinois
All commercial N sources are made from AA, so from a manufacturing perspective AA will always be cheaper to manufacture. Where AA has a problem is in storage and transportation. So if one is further away from the manufacturing plants, pipelines or holding tanks, alternative N sources can be price competitive. In the Corn belt where every other field is corn, AA infrastructure allows it to almost always be the cheapest. Get to the western corn belt or areas with more cropping options and the more easily stored form is popular.

Locally AA pencils best and works well agronomically, but many prefer the flexibility of application of liquid. Dry isn’t nearly as popular as the base N provider as loss to the environment is higher.
