NC MO | Interesting thoughts on this topic. I have some of the same thoughts that you all expressed I just wanted to bounce the idea around in here.
IMO we “farmers” do this to ourselves in almost every venture we pursue. We love our jobs so much we are basically willing to do them for free. Not just that though, we love our jobs so much we are willing to be great at our jobs for free.
I don’t observe every operation and I certainly don’t think every operation is the same in this regard, but I think enough operations are this way that it dictates the environment we all exist in. I don’t know if there is another industry that has leaders, executives, managers and laborers that are united in genuinely caring as much about quality, continuous improvement and efficiency as production agriculture does. We might be uniquely positioned to achieve this because often those positions are all filled by one person or by a close knit group of people that are tied together by more than their business.
