West-Central IL | How far west in Illinois?
We don't have the root worm variant. So do not feel below ground protection is needed.
I have planted nongmo for 20 years for a premium on the mississippi river. Have even done nongmo first yr corn after corn a few times.
No insecticide on planter here either.
We have also always had some traited corn. Although when we buy , it is always a double stack with no below ground trait.
Even for those in our county who don't grow nongmo, the sales of a triple stack are pretty low.
In many yrs of trials, some of them split planter side x sides of nongmo vs traited corn. The MOST I have ever seen was an 11 bushel difference. That was once. Occasionally we will see a slight difference , sometimes it's positive to the nongmo. If there is a negative difference, as in the extreme example above, it is always from cornborer damage. That's just a risk challenge you learn to accept when growing nongmo.
Again geography matters, I'm not sure this would be successful in central Illinois. But there is alot of nongmo or double stack only, in western illinois. | |
