central mn | I agree with Jon’s comments here. As I read this thread I was onboard with not saying anything which is hard to do sometimes. Contemplating selling land to keep going, especially if they are not ready to retire?! That’s desperation and a door opener to a friend in need of help. Sounds like you are pretty close anyhow. He might need some solid advice from someone with soil health knowledge and scale back like was mentioned. Farming gets tough in dry years and cover crops can make it especially challenging to establish the cash crop. Wish you and your friend the best of luck.
Edit: Atuck thought your renaming comment was hilarious but not wrong. The other thing I will say is there are people that are having success doing regenerative ag. You need to be a detail orientated manager. Have a management plan in place and better be ready to make some on the fly changes as the season progresses (Farming 101) Also be out in the fields weekly during times of intense management.
