Subject: RE: Seed Corn Shortage

A lot seed orders depends .on how territory reps forecast what they need. If they didn’t forecast correctly they have to wait for someone else to release it. There have been several Dekalb hybrid for us that the territory reps miss on. They don’t project enough sales of a hybrid so you hoping someone else over projected those hybrid and release them. One of our better Dekalb hybrid over the years was 47-48 and it would beat the hybrids they promoted. The last year we ordered it. I was told I was one if not only one in the state of Wisconsin who order it. Was a struggle every year on whether we would get it. But it was in high demand in New York. In that case the only way you are getting that hybrid is when it released by that territory. No forecast no Availability. So if the lot number for your forecasted territory start failing you are at the mercy of the all territories. When your hybrids start coming in late, I am starting to believe it more about poor forecasting/ promotion of a hybrid you may like. The forecasters tend to go to plot winner instead of specific characteristics. Right now we are missing 99-11(only in its 3rd year) has been great for us on the tough acre and very solid on the good acre but it doesn’t win plots and no one promotes it because of this.

If all the territory under forecast the big yielder from the year before, there just wasn’t enough produced to cover the orders or any failed production.
