Subject: Phytosterol - good or bad?

Pittsburg, Kansas
I hated oatmeal as a kid. As a young adult with small kids I did like cream of wheat. With milk and sugar of course. I no longer eat it.

If you believe in lowering blood cholesterol levels eating plant sterols (phytosterol) is one way to do it. I'm not so sure that is such a good idea. The body tries very hard to keep the foreign plant cholesterol out of the blood stream.

But if you believe it is good for you, by all means go for it. No thank you for me.

Paul Mason is one doctor who questions the conventional wisdom of eating lots of plant sterols or in other words phytosterols.

Dr David Diamond has lots to say about lowering cholesterol.

Relative risk vs absolute risk. There is a difference.
Who to believe.
