I think I understand the issue now. I'd put plywood under it like you mention, then add clay to model the area and shape you want to recreate, put down a layer of resin, cloth or matt, more resin, then pieces of plywood on the wet resin for the main structure, could be 1/2" plus or minus thickness, wet the plywood first. You can mix in some fine sawdust with some resin to get filler, it doesn't have to be aerospace quality, just as strong as the plastic there. Overlap the existing plastic and any cracks, should be fine. When you pull the plywood form off, rinse the clay off and paint it black, with or without body filler over the patch.
