Best not to ask questions like this here as you'll get blasted by some as they feel its not any of your business.

As a good friend I would listen. If he's having trouble financially ask him if he is ok sharing Financials. Offer to share yours, too in order to help understand where his potential downfalls are. We all aren't as unique as many seem to think they are. Coup for example ruffles a lot of feathers but he is genuine in explaining how to cut costs and has some very good ideas on how separate from the masses.

I use a lot of regenerative type practices like minimal or no soil disturbance, covers on most fields, tread lightly with equipment, sidedress most of my N to be efficient as possible yet I build or maintain soil test values with commercial fertilizer. Ive seen what some practices like eliminating fertilizer lead to reduced yields, soil test levels and visual plant deficiency symptoms. If crops are harvested they remove nutrients and at high production levels the soils are not going to replace those nutrients fast enough.
