Tax credits vs Deductions is a big difference.

Tax credits offset tax, deductions reduce income your tax is figured on.

$100K income with 30K deductions. Pay tax on $70K at 25%=$17.5K in taxes

If you had a $30K tax credit you would not owe any tax because it more than offsets you taxes due.
