Subject: RE: Can pigs be raised on ground ear corn

Cleveland, MS. Own small farm near Booneville, MS
When I was a kid part of my after school required activities was to feed the hogs. The sows in the farrowing house were fed ground feed that came from the feed mill. I have no idea what was in it. For the sows that were not bred that were outside dad determined by some magic formula unknown to me how many “good” ears were to be thrown out on the ground for them, husks, cobs, and all. It took at least two “nubbins” to make a good ear. The hogs seemed to like it and do well. The pigs he didn’t sell as feeder pigs he would top out. We had a couple of those big round galvanized feeders that gave unrestricted access to the feed for the pigs. You could hear those lids popping 24/7 as the pigs would eat, sleep, root, and eat some more.
