Could you increase the seeding rate to compensate for the lack of germ? Would be interesting to see if that works. Of course, the price per bag would have to come down the same percentage of population increase in order to be fair to the farmer
That is a good thought, and I have seen some recommend increasing the seeding rate. It may work on some seed lots but not others. What I found is a correlation between cold germ test and seedling vigor as well as emergence. Lots with low cold germ will emerge unevenly. The more delayed plants, the lower the yield potential.
