IA/MN/WI | Are you sure measuring beetle populations in the field is really an accurate measurement of the efficacy of insecticide? Seems like you could correlate it, but hardly determine it's the cause.
It's been well documented that rootworm beetles are attracted to healthier corn fields. Even if two corn fields are side by side we consistently find more rootworm pressure in fields that have higher fertility. So what's not to say that because insecticide reduces root ball feeding, the plants are healthier than neighboring fields, and therefore higher numbers of beetles are found in them. | |
