West Central Illinois | Just dropped off some hereford cows at sale barn tonight that have done me no wrong other than they're just plain too big. Gotta weed out some of these last big 6 frame cows would love to get down to all southpoll influenced stock with about a 4 frame score and 1,000-1100 lb. Im after profit per acre of grass. These cows will run 3 of them on the same amount of acres as 2 of the "big" cows. I'll take 3 smaller calves than 2 big ones every time.
Let's say your 2 - 1500 lb cows wean 750 lb calves, we won't factor in the extra supplement cost on those cows. Top price on 7 weights at local sale was $4.175 so lets say your 2 calves bring $3131.25 for total of $6262.50
On the 3 - 1,000 lb cows that wean 500 lb calves we'll just use the avg price on 5 weights we'll say they're not as fancy. Avg price on 5 weights last week was $4.685 so let's say my 3 calves bring $2342.50 for total of $7027.50.
I'll keep culling out the bigger cows.
