Subject: RE: Solar panel for a fence charger questions.

Western Ohio
We have 3-4 of these exact type of set ups. All in all we like them very well and they work good.

Really we have 2 problems with them. First some pastures the field mice will just not leave them alone. They get up on the box your battery is in and just keep chewing at any small hole (say the one your wire goes through from the pane) until they get in the box. Once in the box they just keep chewing on my electric lines. I assume usually we are working on these when hot in summer. So sweat from our hands get on the wire and mice are going after the salt on our hands.

Second problem is once we get to late fall early winter when we just do not get enough sun the panel will not keep up with draw on battery and you will have a dead battery all the time.

Finally as was mentioned here they really are not portable at all. Very cumbersome to move easily.
