Lubbock, TX | I have planted irrigated milo on 10" spacing for 3 years and have been really pleased. Yield, weed control, and water use efficiency seem to be much better. I plant about 7 lbs/ac, with a 455 JD box drill using half speed gears. I have planted dryland at about 4 lbs./ac by plugging every other tube. Its hard to get the seeding rate down below this amount with any consistency since the drill is only open about a quarter of an inch. So far no problems with the combine and it seems to be less likely to lodge in windy West Texas. | |
