We have dry hydrants here in marshy areas where the intake is in good clear water but the hookup is right beside the paved road.
That's where they are here, hard to even notice if you're not looking. Fire departments don't use them unless absolutely necessary, they like the faster fill/cleaner water from the city or their own well.
