Subject: Dry Fire Hydrant On Farm Property - Any Regrets?

Central Western VA Mountains
Local fire department wants to install a dry fire hydrant on the end of a road on our farm that leads to a creek.

What we get is probably lower insurance costs due to the hydrant location. What we loose is a pristine creek side grassy spot for camping, picnicking and fishing. Also some privacy and quietness.

I have empathy for the needs of the FD and will probably go along and let them install it - especially as there is a clause in the paperwork that we can terminate the hydrant agreement at any time with a written 30 day notice and the FD is financially responsible for removing everything and returning the property back as it was on their dime vs mine.

Question - anyone permit a dry hydrant on their property for their FD and regretted it?

We are inclined to go along with it - but looking for other’s experiences.

Any sage advice is much appreciated!
