Thumb of Michigan | Winter verses summer can be a game changer. I have an automatic/programed cattle feeder. It came with a maybe a 50 watt solar panel on it. The panel charges a marine battery that powers a hydralic pump that disperses the feed. Last winter I end up putting a trickle charger on it because lack of sunshine.
The come spring I replace the one panel with two 100-watt panels (with a new controller to prevent overcharging). This winter I did have to plug in the trickle charger once, seems at -24 degrees hydraulic oil is stiffer and not much sunshine are not in complete alignment.
There are times where I don't get sunshine for a week or so during the winter and batteries don't have as much power as temperatures drop. Your area could be different. | |
