I guess I've been living under a rock, and Im east of the Mississippi so Im not a real cowboy. Is this a breed? Looks like a Simmental. They look like good cattle. Is there a registry? Any breeders on here? Just trying to learn.

Maybe not living under a rock - - - but you've missed at least a bit of stuff. (grin)

Along time ago (in Canada I remember a bull called Galant, born 1968 imported here as one of the originals (CSA # 11) bulls (and likely some heifers) were imported from the Emme valley (Emmental).
A good history is here: https://www.simmental.com/history.html .
This article is incorrect as it talks only of the Simme valley but the Emme valley seems to be larger on the maps but any that know the exact origins of those first cattle are likely long gone!

It is interesting to note that originally the breeds Simmental Emmental and Fleckvieh were different because of their milk properties - - - which were very important for the local cheese production - - - see Emmentaler cheese for some ideas if you wish.

So although Mr Jim swears that ALL Fleckvieh are very dangerous based on his sample of 1 there are 100s of thousands being milked every day never mind being run for beef.
