Iowa | There’s actually quite a few - and some you wouldn’t think from the outside looking in.
Farmers in my area fall into about 3 groups:
The traditional family farm - own 3-400, farm <1000 have a couple hog barns, or cattle those guys are doing ok
Guy trying to row crop only and has expanded rapidly in the last 5-10 years - farm 1000-10,000 needed newer equipment so they have bills to pay - pretty tough here
The bto - farms 2500-25000 lots of new toys full staff, lots of these guys look bulletproof but nobody really knows until it’s too late - and some are doing just fine.
Now complicate that with off farm income - guys in the first category can be saved with a good off farm job, the other 2 not so much | |
