NAC....covid.
"NAC directly scavenges free radicals, including hydroxyl radicals and hypochlorous acid"
"COVID-19 infection produces significant amounts of oxygen free radicals, leading to increased oxidative stress. The virus induces this by causing mitochondrial dysfunction within cells and triggering a "cytokine storm," both of which increase reactive oxygen species (ROS) like superoxide anions and hydroxyl radicals, damaging cell membranes."
"Cytokine storm, or Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS), was primarily observed in severe and critical COVID-19 cases, particularly in intensive care unit (ICU) patients, rather than the general population."
==================================
Based upon the above tidbits, higher aged seniors and those with multimorbidities would be more prone to having a Cytokine Release Syndrome.
Immune System - Either it works for covid, or it does not work; if it works, and a person gets a big dose of covid (riding in a two-door pickup truck with an infected person for several hours with the windows rolled up), this person may end up in ICU since it takes about a week plus for the immune system to get up to speed.
I'm not finding info suggesting NAC will kick butt on covid....NAC would appear to be acting like a janitor, and cleaning up the free radial mess created by CRS.
BTW, "Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) acts as a potent antioxidant that neutralizes harmful free radicals—unstable molecules produced by metabolism, pollution, and UV light."
