Your comments focus my efforts. Like you, I've been through this before. I wanted to learn what i haven't considered to shorten this problem.
In some ways her behavior is weird. She is a calm quiet cow that kicks to wipe the calf away not to strike. Her udder fills to great extent between each trip to the chute. Go to the chute she stands quietly calf nurses aggressively with a lot of udder butting. She stands.
In the past, I have distracted the cow with feed in her pen to let the calf try to nurse.
Hobbles, dog and maybe feed are my next set of tools/ideas to get her nursed in her pen. | |
