This is the reason I try to sort off when calving and get them by themselves. That way they have no other distractions and seem to be more interested in their new born calf. I know it is more work and other guys that help think I am crazy doing this, but over the past ten years have not had to help get cow to take calf. Also maybe part of it is I raise my own replacements.
