I'm watching people go from sort of not caring about a policy to going full rabid dog about it.

No tariffs have not destroyed businesses in one year that were not already tanking.

Do you guys understand tariffs are a strategy and the goal is zero tariffs for everyone. I'll excuse the folks that heard the word tariff for the first time and quickly went to the way back machine to determine that tariffs are all bad. In the past countries tended to punish each other ie. Versailles Treaty. Tariffs were put on to stay as punishment. Now the Trumpster is looking for leverage and tariffs are a tool he can use to get changes we need. It's not permanent punishment. It's more like a mechanic holding on to your car until you pay the bill. In the past we just let the car go. Will it work? So far there are good results but we'll see. The nice thing about Trump is he has zero problem pivoting to a different strategy. Oddly, the reality is he doesn't have a lot of ego invested in a policy. It might appear so, but maybe that's to gig the media and detractors - misdirection is a powerful tool, ask Houdini.

My prediction is Trump will get a lot of deals done and some tariffs may remain in place at the end of his term. If the country goes full scorched earth and elects a kamala/cortez or similar front person for the bureaucracy, I'll bet, like biden did, the tariffs will remain but without the deal making.
