western iowa,by Denison | As a long time cattle feeder,I'm starting to wonder about the cattle i have in some custom lots,i pay 40cents yardage and some other cost's and have a feeling and knowledge that this is not sustainable in the long run for myself,probably start adding some temp lots as on 500 head at 40cents is $200 a day i can pay myself,my long term cost on daily per head yardage is under 8cents,add in the fed markup and the ability to source very reasonable feedstuffs makes a guy really think
banking on custom feeding you better be good at your game,offer reasonable feed cost and go that xtra mile,best of luck | |
