No way I would sell any of the cows UNDER these circumastances because they are not in a particular calving window, If there is another good reason besides calving date then put them on the trailer. Everyone that says sell probably has not tried to find 50 replacements in this market nor have they put together a herd. Buying cows heifers you will be lucky if 40 percent last 3 years. Go spring and fall calving herd as outlined above if you can make good enough feed for the fall calving herd. Run a 90 day window, maybe longer on the spring herd for the first few years till you get things going the right way then work to shorten up your windows and pick the season you like the best or keep 2 and get double use of your bulls that way. In this market you may not make as much on calves that are born late, but you will still make money on them. | |
