I had real good luck with my 3/8 Char-5/8 Blk Angus cows (all smokey color) once I settled down and bred them to a purebred bull. Blk Angus was the best cross. Half calves were smokey and half solid blk. This is way back in the 70's, 1250-1300# cows. They help put me through college.
